     William was born in 1688 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. On 1698, William was listed on the Census at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Enumerated in this household were William Mapes, & Hannah. This census, although undated, is thought to have be taken towards the end of the year. Since William Sr. died in April, it seems that this was his son & mother. [klm] William married Tabitha Case, daughter of Henry Case II and Tabitha Vail, on 21 May 1711 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. On the 31 March 1729, William purchased about 1100 acres of land in Orange County from Elizabeth Denne for $625 New York paper money. It is assumed that he moved there at that time.3 William departed this life in January 1747/48 in New York at age 60 years.
