He was buried at Solon in Mount Hope Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: SETH MAPES - Born Mar. 28 1770 - - Died Mar 27 1844.7

He was married in 1790 to Julia Smith, daughter of William and Martha Smith who was born Mar. 5, 1775 and died June 11, 1862.     Seth was in Geneva, Ontario County, NY in 1810 and later settled in Cuyahoga County, OH, where he became a wealthy farmer. The farm was still in the possession of one of his descendents in 1962.
