     Phineas was born in 1746 in Mattituck in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He gave his age as 32 on Oath of Allegiance & Peaceful Behavior that was required by Gov. Tryon in 1778.4 He is noted as being on the Census of 1776 at Southold Township - 1 male >16 2 male <16 1 female. On August 25 of 1778 of Mattituck Parish as head of a family of six.. He is noted as being in Brookfield by 1778. Phineas married Mary Brown on 2 June 1768 in the Town of Southold.5 Phineas and Mary had children: Phineas [1769-1815], David [1772-1/12/1798], Rachael [6/02/1776-6/08/1776], Micah [2/06/1776-8/06/1776], James, Jason [9/15/1777-1/08/1844] [m. 1814 Lydia Allison], Mary [1/12/1780-3/30/1838] [m. 1805 Nebat Corwin] & James [4/04/1790-10/26/1831] [m. 6/04/1807 Sarah Stage]. 1776, Phineas waslisted on the Southold Town Census. This cemetery was near his farm. Phineas departed this life in 1814 in Brookfield at age 68 years.
