Mary Bowne

     Mary was born the 6th day of the 11th month 1660 at the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York.1 Mary married Joseph Thorne, son of William Thorne, in 1679 in the Town of Flushing. Joseph and Mary had children: Hannah [10/26/1680-2/02/1761] [m. Thomas Field], Joseph [9/22/1682], William 11/07/1684], Mary [8/22/1686-1768] [m.11/08/1709 John Shotwell], Susannah [6/18/1688-3/27/1728] [m. Eliakim Hedger], John [10/05/1690], Thomas [3/01/1693], Benjamin [1/06/1695] [m. Sarah Balding], Abraham [9/01/1696-1765] [m. 9/19/1717 Mary Shotwell & 2nd. 9/20/1739 Ann Laing], Isaac [11/04/1698], Jacob [3/20/1700] & Sarah [1/20/1703] [m. 2/10/1726 James Jackson Jr.].2 Mary's husband, Joseph, died before 27 November 1727 in Town of Flushing, leaving her a widow. Mary made her will on 20 June 1728 at the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York.

Mary Thorne of Flushing, widow of Joseph Thorne . . . omits William, Joseph, John [still living] and Susannah [just died] – names granddaughter Elizabeth, daughter of Eliakim Hedger and all other children. To Benjamin a negro man, Tom, and ‘my share of that our wagon and all implements of husbandry on the place where he now lives”.3

Mary departed this life in Woodbridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey. She was buried at Town of Flushing in the Quaker Meeting House Cemetery.4 Her will was probated on 12 August 1728.
