Joseph was born circa 1642 in Gravesend, New Netrherlands. Joseph married Anna Lawrenson on 1 February 1672 in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York.1 Joseph's wife, Anna, died before 1679 in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York, leaving him a widower. Joseph married 2nd Mary Bowne, daughter of John Bowne and Hannah Feake, in 1679 in the Town of Flushing. Joseph and Mary had children: Hannah [10/26/1680-2/02/1761] [m. Thomas Field], Joseph [9/22/1682], William 11/07/1684], Mary [8/22/1686-1768] [m.11/08/1709 John Shotwell], Susannah [6/18/1688-3/27/1728] [m. Eliakim Hedger], John [10/05/1690], Thomas [3/01/1693], Benjamin [1/06/1695] [m. Sarah Balding], Abraham [9/01/1696-1765] [m. 9/19/1717 Mary Shotwell & 2nd. 9/20/1739 Ann Laing], Isaac [11/04/1698], Jacob [3/20/1700] & Sarah [1/20/1703] [m. 2/10/1726 James Jackson Jr.].2 1698, Joseph was listed on the Flushing Town Census. Enumerated in this household were Joseph Thorne; His wife: Mary, their sons: Joseph, William, Thomas, John, Benjamin, Abraham, & their Daughters: Hannah, Mary, Susan. Joseph made his will on 27 July 1724 at Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York.
I, JOSEPH THORNE, of Flushing, in Queens County, being aged and indisposed. Being well advised with ye weighty concern I am now about. I leave to my son Benjamin, all my Plantation or homestead where I now live in Flushing, with all housing, orchards, and lands, and all my meadow and woodland. I leave to my wife Mary, the use of all lands and meadows, and of all housing and orchards during her life. After her death I leave to my son Benjamin, and he is to pay legacies, viz.: To his brother Jacob, £100, and to his brothers, Isaac, Thomas, and Abraham, £20 each. To my son Isaac, I leave 5 shillings. I leave to my sons, Thomas, Abraham, and Isaac, all that tract of land lying at a place called -, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I leave to my wife Mary, a negro man, and an Indian woman. To my daughter Sarah, a negro girl. I leave to my son Joseph, 5 shillings over and above what I have formerly given him by deed of gift. I leave to my son William, 5 shillings besides what I gave him in West New Jersey. To my son John, 5 shillings and a negro boy. To my wife Mary, ½ of the rest of my movables. To my daughter, Mary Shadwell, a negro girl. I leave to my daughters, Hannah Field, Mary Shadwell, Susanah Hedger, and Sarah Thorn, ½ of my movables. I make my wife and my son Benjamin, executors.

Joseph departed this life in Town of Flushing. He was buried there in the Quaker Meeting House Cemetery.4 His will was probated on 27 November 1727.
