     Jefferson was born in March 1800 in Greene County, New York. Jefferson married Nellie M. Schutt circa 1826 in New York. Jefferson & Nellie had children: Jane Ann [1828-1901], Cornelius [1831], Charlotte [1833], Matilda [1837] & Jackson. The family resided in Lockport, Niagara County & Kingston, Ulster County, New York. The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Wilsons Town, Niagara County, New York, the family of Jefferson Townsend [010001:111001].2 12 July 1850, Jefferson and his wife, Nellie, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Lockport, Niagara County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Jefferson Townsend [45 New York], his wife: Nella [46 New York], children: Jane [21 New York], Cornelius [19 New York], Charlotte [17 New York] & Matilda [13 New York].3 31 July 1860, Jefferson and his wife, Nellie, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Jefferson Townsend [59 New York], his wife: Maria [58 New York], & daughter: Jane A. [30 New York].4 Jefferson departed this life on Friday, 25 September 1863 in Kingston at age 63 years and 6 months. He was buried there in the Wiltwyck Cemetery.5
