Avis Tillinghast

     Avis was born in 1737. Avis married James Carpenter, son of Joseph Carpenter III and Mary Willett, circa 1758 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island. James was a sea captain. After their marriage, they made their home at Newport, R. I. Avis departed this life on Saturday, 2 October 1819 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island. She was buried at Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, in Trinity Church.
