     William was born circa 1703 in South River, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, at the family home "Abbington". On 17 March 1726, William, granted to his brother, Westall, a tract of land being part of Ridgley's Chance in Ann Arundel County containing 220 acres lying on the Potuxon River. William married Mary Orrick on 14 April 1726 in Anne Arundel County.2 William and Mary had children: William [circa 1727-1778] [m. Mary Ann Pumphrey], Priscilla [m. William Griffith], Jane [m. Mr. Hand], Nicolas [1740-1/19/1830][m. Anne Everett], Mary [m. Greenbury Pumphrey], Sophia [1740-1801][m. 1761 Rezin Pumphrey], John [m. Anne Griffith], Henry [1748-1749][m. 1774 Rachel Griffith], Anne [m. Mr Rigby] & Greenbury [7/04/1754-3/17/1843][m. 5/01/1774 Rachel Ryan].3 William made his will on 10 March 1768.

In his will, William left to his sons John, Henry and Greenbury "Ridgely's Choice" of 305 acres, "Spanish Oak Grove" of 50 acres and "Piney Grove" of 150 acres. To son William 10 shillings, To son Nicholas 10 shillings, To daughter Jane Hand 30 shillings.
To daughter Mary Pumphrey 30 shillings, To daughter Sophia Pumphrey 30 shillings, To daughter Anne Rigby £10, To wife Mary negroes and one-third of estate, and son Greenbury to live with his mother "in my dwelling house".
Executrix - wife Mary Ridgely.
Witnesses - William Haslip, Thomas hams, John Haslip and Jacob Ryan.4

William departed this life in Anne Arundel County. His will was probated on 27 October 1780.
