Charles Fredrich Meinzer
M, b. 1812, d. 1893
Charles Fredrich was born in 1812 in Baden-Baden, Germany. Charles married Katrina Hauger, daughter of Johann Daniel Hauger and Julia Luisa (?), in 1839 in Baden-Baden, Germany. Charles & Katrina were born and married in Baden, Germany. All the information on this family comes from an old bible which belonged to Katrina & in which she recorded the births of her children along with some other family information. This bible was in very bad condition when we saw it and written in the old German script. Because of its condition, it was very difficult to have it translated. Katrina had recorded the signs of the zodiac with the birth of each of her children. It also stated that Charles & Katrina had taken over some property on a contract & later, in August of 1848, they built a house on the property, and had a big party a year later on August 23 of 1849 to celebrate their new home. It was also possible to see in the very faded writing that Katrina's father was Johann Daniel Hauger & her mother's name was possibly Julia Luiza. The bible is in the possession of Philip Meinzer of Kokoma, Indiana (1982). The family immigrated to Upper Sandusky, Wyandott Co., Ohio in 1862. In 1861, Charles & his wife, Katrina, left LeHarve, France. aboard the ship, "William Nelson", bound for New York. Listed among the passengers were: Carl Mainzer 48 years, Catherine 48 years, Carl 20 years, Wilhelm 18 years, Catherine 14 years, Louisa 11 years, Pauline 8 years & Heinrich 4 years. They arrived in New York City on the 13th day of May..1 29 June 1870, Charles and his wife, Katrina, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Mifflin Township, Wyandot Coutny, Ohio.
