Mercy was born in 1664 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Mercy's husband, Samuel, died on 8 January 1742 in Brewster, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow. Mercy departed this life on Monday, 20 January 1748/49 in Brewster at age 85 years. She was buried there in the Ancient Sears Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Here Lyeth Buried ye Body of Mrs. Mercy Sears Wife of Capt. Samuel Sears who Departed this Life Jan 20th A D 1748/9 in ye 84th year of her Age.
