     Mathieu was born in 1628. He was the son of Philippe Amiot & Anne Convent. He received his education thru the Jesuit mission and later acted as an interpreter with the natives. Still later, he chose to settle and began accumulating property. His first acqusition was in 1649, when the governor of New France granted him substanial lands in the Trois-Riviers area. Mathieu married Marie Miville, daughter of Pierre Miville and Charlotte Mauger, on 22 November 1650 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.1 Marie brought a dowery into the marriage consisting of proptery in the vicinity of the ville de Quebec. In 1661, the Jesuits granted Mathieu land in Sillery where he built a house for his family. However, he still maintained a home in Quebec City. He continued to accumulate land over his life time. His last signifcant aquisition was on 3 November 1672 when Jean Talon, Intendant of Justice, Public Order and Finances for New France, granted him a domain as a fief and Siegneury at Pointe aux Bouleaux. March 1666, Mathieu and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Mathieu Amiot dit Villeneuve [37 years], Marie Minville [33 years], Charles [14 years], Pierre [ 13 years], Anne Marie [11 years], Marguerite [9 years], Jean Bapiste [8 years], Jean [6 years], Fracoise [5 years], Catherine [3 years], Daniel [6 months] & a domestic under contract Antoine Ducos [26 years].2 September 1667, Mathieu was listed on the Census at Sillery, ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Mathieu Amiot [40 years], Marie Miville [35 years], Charles [16 years], Pierre [15 years], Anne Marie [14 years], Mariguerite [11 years], Jean Baptiste [9 years], Francoise [7 years], Jean [6 years], Catherine Ursele [ 5 years], Daniel Joseph [2 years], Mathieu [1 month] & two domestics, Adrien Saillot [19 years] & Daniel Leroy [20 years].3 1681, Mathieu and Marie were listed on the Canadian Census in St-Augustin de-Desmaures, Portneuf County, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Mathieu Amiot [53 years], Marie Miville [50 years], Jean Baptiste [22 years], Jean [20 years], Daniel [16 years], Mathieu [14 years], Philippe [13 years], Etienne [8 years], Catherine [16 years], Jeanne [11 years] & Marie [6 years].4 Mathieu departed this life in ville de Quebec. He was buried there in the cemetery of Notre Dame on Sunday, 19 December 1688.5 At his death, there were considerable debts and loans against his propterties to the extent that his properties were essentially worthless.
