Silas Haynes was born on Sunday, 29 March 1772 in Howells Depot, the town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York. Silas married Mary Thomas on 28 August 1792 in New York. Silas & Mary had children: Julia Ann [9/14/1793], Seth [7/14/1795-4/02/1813] & David V. [5/09/1797].2 Silas's wife, Mary, died on 11 July 1797 in New York, leaving him a widower. Silas married 2nd Sarah Hunt on 13 March 1798 in New York. Silas & Sarah had children: Lisander M. [9/14/1811]. & Sarah Maria [11/12/1813]. Silas's wife, Sarah, died on 16 September 1848 in Milo, Yate County, New York, leaving him a widower. 8 August 1850, Silas was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Thompson, Sullivan County, New York. Enumerated in this household were Silas H. Mapes [78 New York] & Phebe Davis [16 New York]. Silas is a farmer.3 Silas departed this life on Friday, 27 February 1857 in Monticello, Sullivan County, New York. He was buried at Montgomery, Orange County, New York, in the Brick Church Cemetery.4

On Aug. 28, 1792 he was married_to Mary Thomas who was born Aug. 8, 1774 and died July 11, 1797. Three children were born to them. On Mar 13, 1798 he married (2) Sarah Hunt who was born Dec. 21, 1766 and died Sept. 16, 1848. He moved to western New York State but later returned to Monticello, Sullivan County, N. Y. where he died. His children were: Julia Ann Mapes b. Sept. 14, 1793, Seth Mapes b. July 14, 1795 d. Apr. 2, 1813, David V. Mapes b. May 9, 1797, Lisander M. Mapes b. Sept. 14, 1811.
