     John was born in Springthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. He was born at the home of his father. On 6 February 1601, he was christened in East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. On 20 May 1610, his father left him, in his will, two cottage houses in Springthorpe & one oxgang of land purchased of Richard Parker of Springthorpe.3 John married Mary Williamson on 22 May 1632 in East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England.4 He and Mary were blessed with 6 children. John made his will on 6 October 1647 at Springthorpe, Lincolnshire, England.

He gives to his eldest son, John, his houses in Briggate & in East Retford, Carr Lane & Close in Little Grigley in Clarborough. He left to his second son, William, his lands in Springthorpe & Little Carrington, County Lincoln. He gave to his eldest daughter, Jane, one houndred pounds, she then was under twenty-one. Mentions brother, Robert of Bawtry. He left to his younger daughter, Elizabeth, one hundred pounds. To Mrs. Ann Mason, God Mother of Elizabeth. He mentions his child his wife is now with to have fifty pounds. His wife Mary is to have the house during the nonage of my two sons, John & William, to have the residue of the estate, and to be its executor. He leaves his sister, Ellen Chatterton, to have ten pounds. His nephew John Maltby, also to have ten pounds. Makes his brother Robert, friend, Mr. Dickens of Saundley, clerk, & Beaumont Sutton, of East Retford, Gentlemen to be overseers.5

He wrote a codicil to his will on 28 December 1647. My House in Briggate is to be sold and £100 be given to my son, John, at 21, and the residue for my youngest son latelv born. Thomas Biggs, Thomas Maltby.6 John departed this life before 4 January 1648 in East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England.7 On 4 January 1648, John was buried at Churchyard, East Retford, Nottinghamshire, England.8 His will was probated in April 1648.
