Samuel Magruder

M, b. circa 1661, d. before 16 April 1711
     Samuel was born circa 1661 in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was the son of Alexander Magruder and Sarah Taylor. Samuel married Sarah Mill, daughter of William Mill and Tabitha Wright, circa 1685 in Prince George's County. Samuel and Sarah had children: Samuel [1686-2/09/1779][m. 1707 Eleanor Wade], Ninian [1687-6/26/1751][m. 8/12/1712 Elizabeth Brewer], Elizabeth [1688][m. 1703 Ninian Beall Jr.& 2nd. 1712 William Beall son of Alexander Beall and Elizabeth Combs], Sarah [1690-circa 1711][m. 1707 William Selby], Mary [circa 1692-<1/16/1731][m. George Clagett], John [circa 1695-9/14/1750][m. 12/01/1715 Susannah Smith], James [1/25/1697-7/19/1775][m. 1719 Barbara Combs], Virlinda [circa 1694-3/29/1745][m. 1712 John Beall osn of Alexander Beall and Elizabeth Combs], William [1699-1/22/1765][m. Mary Fraser], Alexander [1701-6/12/1751][m. 1723 Anne Wade], Nathaniel [1704] & Eleanor [1711][m. 1728 Nehemiah Wade]. Samuel made his will on 23 November 1710 at Prince George's County, Maryland.

In the name of God Amen – I Samuel Magruder of prince Georges County in the province of Maryland being sick of body but in perfect mind and memory praise therefore be given unto God and Considering the uncertainty of this life do make and ordaine this to be my Last will and Testament in manner and forme following that is to say my Soul I commend into the hands of Almighty God hoping through the merits and passion of my Savior Jesus Christ to receive a full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and at the last hoping to Inherit Eternal Life to the praise of God and the Comfort of my immortal Soul which cannot lye – my body I commit it to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and touching what temporall Estate hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give and bequeath as followeth.
Imprimis – It my will and pleasure in this my last will and testament that all my funerall Charges and also all other just Debt duos, from me to any person or persons by bill or promise however be du charged honored and paid without suite or suites of law by my well beloved wife Sarah Magruder whom I do leave and appoint and ordaine to be my Sole Executrix over my whole Estate.
First – I bequeath unto my Loving wife Sarah Magruder my now dwelling plantation and all the Land belonging unto it during her natural life to occupy possess and to make use of to the best of her advantage and after her decease I give and bequeath unto my Son Samuel Magruder this plantation with two hundred acres of Land belonging to it being this uppermost part of the tract of Land Called “Good Luckl” unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Samuel Magruder one hundred acres of Land it being Called by the name “Magruder Delight” and the plantation belonging to it unto hnim and his heirs forever – Item I give unto my Son Ninian Magruder the plantation that was my brother John Magruders and three hundred acres of Land belonging unto it being the upper most part of a tract of Land Called Alexandria unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give unto my Son John Magruder the tract of Land Called Dumbloan with the plantation and two hundred and forty acres of Land belonging unto it unto him & his heirs forever. – I give and bequeath unto my Son James Magruder that John Cole live on and three hundred acres of Land belonging unto it unto him & his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son William Magruder all that tract of Land Called “Turkey Cock Rqnch” with one hundred and twenty three acres of Land belonging to it unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Alexander Magruder one hundred acres of Land being a part of a tract of Land Called “Good Luck” unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Alexander Magruder the eight part of the pautuxent Merchant Ship unto him and his heirs forever – I give and bequeath to my Son Alexander ten hundred of tobacco for to be shipped home this year and with the produce to buy a piece of Land for him – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Nathaniel Magruder one hundred acres of Land being part of a tract of Land Called “Good Luck” unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son National Magruder the eight part of the Patuxent Merchant Ship unto him and his heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Nathaniel Magruder 10 hundred of tobacco for to be shipped home this yeare and with the produce for to buy a piece of Land for him – Item My will is that in Case Either of my Sons Samuel, Ninian, John, James, William, Alexander & Nathaniel Magruder should dye without issue that then the deceased His Land to be equally divided between the other six brothers. Item my will is that my five Sons John, James, William, Alexander & Nathaniel Magruder shall work for themselves at the age of sixteen years – Item I will & bequeath one third part of my personal estate unto my loving wife Sarah Magruder – Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Elizabeth Magruder and Sarah Magruder 10 pounds for to buy a gown & petty coate – Item I will and bequeath unto my five Sons John, James, William, Alexander & Nathaniel Magruder and my three Daughters Virlinda, Mary & Eleanor two thirds of my personal estate unto them and their heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Sons Samuel, Ninian & John Magruder one Lot of Land at Marlborough Town Containing one acre of Land the Lot number forty eight unto them and their heirs forever – Item I give and bequeath unto my Sons James, William, Alexander & Nathaniel Magruder one Lot of Land at Marlborough Town containing one acre of Land the Lot number three unto them and their heirs forever – Item my will is that what Goods I have sent for out of England should be accounted for as my personal Estate and my Dear wife to have her thirds of those – I do ordaine and appoint my brother Alexander Magruder my brother Nathaniel Magruder & my brother John Pottenger to be overseers of this my Last will & testament and Lastly I do ordain this to be my Last will and Testament all other formerly made to be void and anulled As Witness my hand and Seal this 23rd Day of November in the yeare of our Lord God 1710.

His will was probated on 15 April 1711. Samuel departed this life in Prince George's County.
