Joseph Ludlam1

M, b. 1675, d. before 12 February 1761
     Joseph was born in 1675 in Southampton, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He was the son of Anthony and Sarah Ludlam.2 Joseph married Elizabeth Ryder, daughter of Thomas Ryder II and Abigail Terry, in 1695 in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.3 Joseph and Elizabeth had children: Abigail [m. a Mr Schull], Anthony [m. Priscilla], Joseph [-2/00/1753] [m. 1/23/1732 Alathes Smith & 2nd 8/17/1747 Abigail Young], Isaac, Jeremiah [1709-1/20/1777] [m. Martha Stites], Elizabeth [m. Thomas Cresse], Phebe [m. 9/20/1729 Elisha Eldredge, 2nd Daniel Norton & 3rd Henry Young], Sarah, & Beula m. 5/18/1739 John Cresse. Joseph's wife, Elizabeth, died on 7 April 1753 in Upper Township, Cape May County, New Jersey, leaving him a widower. Joseph made his will on 3 January 1760 at Cape May, Cape May County, New Jersey.

He names his grandson Joseph Ludlam, eldest son of son Joseph, deceased; Carmon Smith married to one of my relatives, to his wife Lydia; sons Isaac and Jeremiah Ludlam; daughters Abigail Scull, Elizabeth Cresse [Abigail Scull became aged and infirm could not appear at the accounting].4

Joseph departed this life in Cape May. His will was probated on 12 February 1761. His estate was valued at 267 pounds.
