William Allen
     William Mortimer was born on Friday, 25 November 1814 in the City, County & State of New York. He was the son of the Honorable Stephen Allen, Mayor of New York, and business partner of Augustus Wright. William married Catherine Maria Leggett, daughter of William Haight Leggett and Margaret Peck Wright, on 2 October 1838 in Westchester County, New York, at the Leggett home at Rose Bank, Morrissania. Catharine & William had children: Margaret Leggett [12 Jan 1841-22 Oct 1913][m. Emerson Foote [28 Apr 1837-23 Jan 1908] & Sarah [7 Oct. 1847-1 Mar 1927][m. 22 Feb. 1870 Charles Dennison Belden of NYC [9 Jan. 1843-12 Feb 1912]]. 29 October 1850, the U.S. Federal Census listed William and his wife, Catherine, living in the home of her parents at West Farms, Westchester County, New York.
