     Walter was born in Upwey Parish, Dorchester, Dorchestershire, England. On 9 June 1616, he was christened in Upwey Parish, Dorchester, Dorchestershire, England, at Parish Church. The name of his wife is not known. Walter resided at Winsor. Walter was at Windsor, Connecticut where he received a grant of land that was recorded in 1640. Three of his children were born there. He removed to Norwalk where he was one of the first settlers. The first records there begin in 1653. One of the early entries, dated December 18, 1653, relates to an agreement by the townsmen "with Ralph Keeiler and Waltar Haite," about building a house for Mr. Hanford, the minister, In the Norwalk patent of 1686 "Mr. Walter Hoyt" is the fifth of the ten proprietors of the Township of Norwalk" whose names are mentioned in that instrument, they having possessed the land " for more than twenty years last past". The grants and deeds of Walter Haite occupy two pages, folio 8, of the first book of Norwalk Grants & Deeds. There are also recorded deeds of his in 1686, 1689,1692, & 1693. His home lot of four acres was on the western limit of the ancient settlement. "The Estates of lands and Accommodations of the town of Norwalk" in Feb., 1671, list 64 names, "Walter Hayte" £192. One of the 78 names of "The Estates of Commonage of the Inhabitants of Norwalk," in January of 1687 list "Walter Hoyt," £242. In each case there are only eight persons who are rated at a higher sum. In 1665 and 1670 Walter Haite was to beat the drum for meetings, etc. Walter Hoyte was a deputy for Norwalk in the General Court in 1658, 1659, 1661, 1667, 1668, 1670, 1671, 1673, 1674, 1676, 1678 & 1681. On the published records his name appears as a deputy at fourteen sessions in the above years, seven times as Hoyte, four times as Hoyt, and three times as Hoit. In nearly all these instances his name appears, with the title "Sarjt.," he having been confirmed by the Gen. Court as sergeant of a company at Norwalk in May of 1659. The name Walter Hoyt occurs as late as Dec., 1694, on a list of Norwalk voters at town meetings. Walter Hoit appeared at Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1684, and took oath as witness to the will of his brother, John Hoit of Rye, New York. He is then mentioned as about 65 years old. Walter married 2nd Elizabeth St. John circa 1643 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Walter's wife, Elizabeth, died in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. Walter married 3rd Rhoda Tinker in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.4 Walter's wife, Rhoda, died before 6 September 1694 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower.5 Walter made his will on 11 February 1696 at Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

" Norwalke the 11 of Febry 1695 or 6 the last will and testament of Walter Hayt Aged aboute 78 yearse I the said Walter hayt Being ill and weacke Apprending I shall not long continue in the land of the living - I will and bequeth my body unto the dust & a descent bueriall and my soull to god that gave it to me - - - and for that lettell Estat that god bath given me be disposed of as folloeth unto my tow sons namly John hayt of Danbury and my son Zaraball hayt that what land and medo and comonage I haue within the towne- bounds of Norwalke be deuided equaly to ech of them a like and also whatt other moubable estat that I shall leue or may be left after my decesce and that it be to them and there heirs and asines administrators to haue and to hold for ever - and this to be my last will : and to conttermand , any former: and to stand good unto them - after my Joust debts be discharged' - my desiar that my tow sones be executors vnto this my will - and this for to be my last will as witness my hand the day and yeare aboue dated it must be understood what lands I haue not disposed of before by Gift or deed.

Walter departed this life before 10 January 1699 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His will was probated on 11 April 1699. "The will and Inventory of ye Estate of Walter Holt of Norwalk deceased being Exhibited to ye Prerogatiue Court In Fairfeild this 11th of Aprill 1699 and the Court do Aprone sa W1l and Inuentory and do- order them to be recorded     Nathan (Told Clerk." There is an inventory of the estate of "Walter Hayte of Norwalk" on file at Fairfield, dated Jan. 10, 1698. It contains nine items in all, amounting to about £167, £150 of which is the value of land, including meadow, commonage, etc. ….

The earliest record respecting him is at Windsor, Ct., as given on p. 288,-where the grant of land to him was recorded in 1640…From Rowland's and Grant's old Windsor records we learn that Walter Hoyt, or Hayt, had three children born there, one, his son John, in 1644. "Hoyte's child died" at Windsor in 1647; but whether Walter's or Simon's does not appear…Walter Hoyt soon removed from Windsor, and was one of the first settlers of Norwalk. The first record of Norwalk town proceedings is dated 1653. On Hall's 'plan of the ancient settlement of Norwalk, the home lot of "Walter Hoyt?" is located on the border of the salt marsh east of Norwalk River, the N Y. & N. H. R. R. now running through one corner of it. It was on the western limit of the ancient settlement. The boundaries of Walter Hoyt's home lot of 4 acres, as given above, do not seem to correspond exactly with Hall's plan, and this is probably the reason that the ? is put after Walter Hoyt on the plan. In Dec., 1668, " Walter Hayte" drew lot No. 13 in the winter wheat field, and in 1684 lot No. 24. In Dec., 1687, "Walter Hoyt" drew lot No. 15 "over Norwalk River." …"The Estates of lands and Accommodations of ye town of Norwalk" in Feb., 1671, we find, as one of the 64 names, " Walter Hayte," £192. ...
