Deacon John Hitchcock1

John was born on Saturday, 27 September 1642 in Springfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Luke Hitchcock & Elizabeth Gibbons. John married Hannah Chapin, daughter of Deacon Samuel Chapin and Cecily Penny, on 27 September 1666 in Springfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, at First Church of Christ. The wedding was presided over by Judge John Pynchon.2 John & Hannah had children: daughter [9/04/1667-9/04/1667], Hannah [9/10/1668-7/17/1748], John [4/13/1670-7/04/1751], Samuel [8/21/1672-12/09/1727], Luke [3/23/1675-4/06/1752], Nathaniel [8/28/1677-4/27/1761], David [2/07/1679-4/28/1762], Jonathan [11/26/1682-2/26/1684] & Sarah [1/11/1687-4/17/1690]. All of these children were born in Springfield. John made his will on 5 February 1712 at Springfield. He disposed of his lands and various houses to his sons and gave his wife a life interest in the house in which he lived. His grandsons received his carbine, cutlass and pistols.3 John departed this life on Tuesday, 9 February 1712 in Springfield.3
