Samuel Hills

     Samuel was born in 1709 in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of Benjamin & Mary [Bronson] Hills. Samuel married Violet Stedman, daughter of John Stedman III and Abigail Andrews, circa 1736 in Connecticut. Samuel & Violet had children: Violet [1739-4/05/1804] [m. 6/09/1761 Elijah Tucker], Hannah [1742-1788] [m. 4/28/1763 Brinton Paine], Samuel [3/02/1743], Demaris [1744-3/01/1724] [m. 1764 John Payne], Lucy [1746-2/26/1826] [m. 1765 Moses Thrall], & Susannah [2/17/1748-2/18/1834] [m. 1769 Ebenezer Nash]. Samuel's wife, Violet, died on 14 July 1749 in East Harvard, Hartford County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. Samuel departed this life on Friday, 25 July 1777 in Vernon, Tolland County, Connecticut, at age 68 years. He was buried there in the old burying ground of North Bolton. The inscription on his tombstone reads: In memory of Mr. Samuel Hills who departed this life Jiuly 25th 1777 in the 69th year of his age.¹
