Sarah Holmes

     Sarah was born circa 1801 in Thrusthrop, Lincolnshire, England. She was the daughter of William Holmes. The name of Skegness has also been given as her place of birth. Sarah married 2nd William Bethel Colton, son of John Colton II and Mary Johnson, on 24 May 1840 in Kingston Upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, at the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity. The marriage was witnessed by James Wright & Mary Ann Colton.1 Sarah and her husband, William, were listed on the 1841 English census living in Township of Glanford Brigg at Wrawby Street. Enumerated in this household were William Colton [56 Lincolnshire, England], his wife: Sarah [40 Lincolnshire, England], Jacob [15 England] and lodger: James Rose [25 England - sawyer]. William was a tailor.2 Sarah and her husband, William, were listed on the 1851 English census living in Township of Glanford Brigg at Wrawby Street. Enumerated in this household were William Colton [66 Brigg,Lincolnshire, England], his wife: Sarah [50 Thrusthrop, Lincolnshire, England], lodger: Ann Cawkwell [26 England - dress maker]. William was a tailor.3 Sarah and her husband, William, were listed on the 1861 English census living in Township of Glanford Brigg at Wrawby Street. Enumerated in this household were William Colton [88 Brigg, Lincolnshire], his wife: Sarah [62 Skegness, Lincolnshire]. William was a tailor.4 Sarah's husband, William, died on 25 April 1864 in Brigg leaving her a widow.5
