     James was born on Tuesday, 8 April 1692 in Eastchester, Westchester County, New York. James married Anna Pope in 1714 in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York. In December of 1723, James moved his family to Greenwich, Connecticut where he bought twenty two and a half acres with a house and barn on the west side of Quaker Ridge. He resided there for the remainder of his life. He was a Quaker. He was a respectable member of church indicated by the fact that he was appointed to attend special meetings of the Friends. James made his will on 3 November 1764 at Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. In it he notes himself as a farmer. He mentions his wife, his two sons: Samuel & Caleb; his three daughters: Anna, Elizabeth, Martha; and his two granddaughters: Mary & Ann Sutton. James departed this life on Tuesday, 13 November 1764 in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His will was probated in December 1764. It is recorded at Stamford.

By the will of his grandfather he rec'd a share of fresh meadow. His name appears as a witness of the mar. of (2670) John,4 1716. He removed from Flushing, L. I., to Greenwich, Ct., about 1724; for in Dec., 1723, James Haight, of F., bought 22 1/2 acres of land, with house and barn, on the west side of Quaker Ridge, in Greenwich, where he afterwards resided. His will, dated Nov. 3, 1764, proved Dec., 1764, is rec. at Stamford. In it he is called a farmer, and mentions his wife, two sons, three daus., and two granddaus. He was a Friend. We find James Hoight and Hoite on the Purchase Monthly Meeting records in 1730 and '37, and James Haight in 1738. James Hoyht was ap. for the Rye meeting, in 1736, to attend the "meetings of ministers and elders at the yearly and quarterly meetings. We also find James Haight on the Pur chase Quarterly Meeting rec. in 1754.
