Michael's wife, Catherine, died on 15 May 1850 in Chanceford Township leaving him a widower. 30 December 1850, the U.S. Federal Census listed Michael living in the home of his son at Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Enumerated in this household were George Eckert [38 Pennsylvania], Lydia [24 Pennsylvania], George 7/12 Pennsylvania], Michael [73 Pennsylvania], Catherine [28 Pennsylvania], Margaret Mauger [26 Pennsylvania] & Sarah Jane Snyder [8 Pennsylvania]. George is a farmer and Michael is a wheelwright.2 Michael departed this life on Thursday, 11 February 1858 in Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He was buried there in New Bridgeville, Chanceford Township in Saint Lukes Evangelical Lutheren Cemetery. The weathered inscription on his tombstone reads: In Memory of Michael Eckert - Died Feb. 11, 1858 - Aged 82 years 6 months.3
