Abner was born circa 1755 in New York. He was the son of John Dirck Doty & Marytje Grau. Abner married Lidia Townsend, daughter of Christopher Townsend and Lydia (?), circa 1780 in Dutchess County, New York. Abner made his will on 12 October 1785 at Frederick, Southeast Town, Dutchess County, New York. He leaves a legacy to his wife, not named... He devised his sons: Abner, Gunslias (probably Elias) & Stephen. He mentions his daughters: Sarah & Polly. He made Lydia Townsend, Christopher Townsend & Nehemiah Wood executors of his estate. Witnesses: Ebenezer Bailey& Gilbert Townsend. Abner departed this life after 12 October 1785 in Frederick, Southeast Town, Dutchess County, New York.

The ancestor, whose name is not known, was a farmer and lived probably at South East, Putman County, N.Y. He died at an early age, about 1797. His widow married ________ Ballard and they had a daughter, Bethany or Bethaniah, who married Charles Tupper and lived at Mount Washington, probably in Putnam County.
