James Dolson

     James was born on Monday, 1 February 1734 in Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. He was the son of Isaac Dolson and Maritje Hussey. James married Phebe Meeker, daughter of Benjamin Meeker, circa 1759 in Orange County, New York. James and Phebe had children: James [1760] [m. Eleanor Carpenter], Asa [1/03/1761], Mary [1734], Abigail [1765] & Samuel [2/14/1766] [m. FAnny Vail]. James made his will on 8 February 1778 at Goshen, Orange County, New York. In his will James bequeaths to his oldest son, James, his farm providing he gives to each of his brothers, Asa and Samuel, 200 pounds. After other bequests, he gives the remainder of his estate to his wife, Phebe. He appoints his brothers-in-law Isaiah Vail and Abraham Harding as his executors. Witnesses: Henry White Benjamin Whitiker James Little. James departed this life on Monday, 23 February 1778 in Goshen at age 44 years and 22 days. He was buried at Middletown in Pine Hill Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: In Memory of James Dolson - who departed this life Febuary 23rd 1778 in the 44th year of his age.¹ His will was probated on 1 August 1779.
