Elvira Clark

     Elvira was born in January 1835 in New York. She was the daughter of Orman Clark of Lydon and Amanda Parsons. Elvira married Nelson Howell, son of Parshall Howell II and Elizabeth Horton, on 4 March 1862 in Lenawee County, Michigan.¹ Nelson & Elvira had children: Flora [1863], Ora Annie [1867] [m. 10/26/1887 John J Milborn], Mehitable [1871] [m. 11/08/1893 Louis C. Vangorden], Elmira Agnes [1873] [6/07/1899 Casin W. Obert] , & Mary. 18 July 1870, Elvira and her husband, Nelson, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Dexter Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Nelson Howell [38 New York farmer], his wife, Elvira [35 New York], children:L Flora A. [7 Michigan] & Ono [3 Michigan].² 3 June 1880, Elvira and her husband, Nelson, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Hamlin Township, Eaton County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Nelson Howell [46 New York NY & NY], his wife: Elvira [45 New York NY & NY], children: Flora [17 Michigan], Ora [13 Michigan], Bel [9 Michigan], & Elmira [7 Michigan].³ 27 June 1900, Elvira and her husband, Nelson, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Hamlin Township. Enumerated in this household were Nelson Howell [66 New Jersey - July 1833] & his wife: Alvira [65 New York - January 1835]. They had been married 39 years with 6 children, 4 living.⁴ 20 April 1910, Elvira and her husband, Nelson, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Hamlin Township. Enumerated in this household were Nelson Howell [76 New York], his wife: Elvira [75 New York] & hired man: Del Carke [28 Michigan].. They had been married 49 years with 4 children, 4 living.⁵ Elvira's husband, Nelson, died on 12 January 1912 in Eaton Rapids leaving her a widow. Elvira departed this life on Saturday, 1 July 1916 in Eaton Rapids at age 81 years and 6 months. She was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery.
