     Joseph was born circa 1664 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Joseph married Sarah Underhill circa 1700. Joseph and Sarah had children: John [m. Mary Strang, daughter of Daniel], Joseph [m. Ann], Elisha [1705-9/21/1765] [m. Ann Lyon] & Underhill [4/28/1708-8/19/1798] [m. 9/17/1730 Sarah Fowler].2 Joseph made his will on 27 May 1720.

Joseph leaves to wife Sarah use of house and one-third of lands in township of Rye on the westside of Blind Brook between Westchester road and the Sound, also a piece of land to the northward of Westchester old road lying between the lands of Col. Heathcote and John Horton, except a piece oa salt meadow at the going on to Little Neck. And all my salt meadow on the southside of Little Neck creek. Also a piece of salt meadow at a place called the Hole, at the west side of Little Nexk, "until my son John comes to the age of thirty". Leaves to son John the other two thirds of lands and one half the house lot. To son Joseph, a lot of salt meadow at going on to Little Neck and my piece of land lying on Causeway Ridge in White Plains Purchase. To son Elisha, a lot of salt meadow on south side of Little Neck and all other lands in White Plains Purchase. Legacies to sons: Jonathan, Gilbert, & Underhill all under twenty-one, Executors to sell land on east side of Blind Brook. Mentions four daughters: Sarah, Ann, Tamar, & Madge. He makes his wife Sarah, John Stevenson and Samuel Purdy executors.3

Joseph departed this life before 27 May 1722 in Rye, Westchester County, New York. His will was probated on 27 May 1722.
