Dorothy (?)
F, b. circa 1584, d. 27 January 1674
Dorothy was born circa 1584 in either England or in Holland. Dorothy married John Browne before 1610 in England. She and John were blessed with chldren & posssibly others. He is known to have spent time in Holland and the Low Countries of Europe and while traveling there, made acquaintance with Rev. Robinson, the beloved Pilgrim pastor, and many of the Reverend's friends and fellow Pilgrims. These travels were around the years 1616 and beyond, in the years just prior to the first immigration of the Pilgrims to New England. Dorothy's husband, John, died on 10 April 1662 in Swansea Township, Bristol County, Massachusetts, leaving her a widow. Dorothy made her will on 17 December 1668.
In the name of God Amen I Dorethy Browne of Swansey in the Jurisdiction of New Plymouth being of Great age, Doe make this my Last Will and Testament in manor and forme following; That is first I Commend my soule to God my maker, and redeemer, and my body to be buried; and then after my furnerall expences and Debts payed, which I owe either of Right or Consience; I doe Give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Willett my best petticoat and a Cow for all her parte and portion Item I give to everyone of my Daughter Maryes Willetts Children that shalbe living att my Decease, six shilling and eight pence a peece; Item I give unto Sarah Elliot Daughter of Sarah Elliott Deceased a Cow; Item I Give and bequeath unto James Browne my son all my parte of the house hee now Dwelleth in and alsoe my parte of the New barne; Item I give unto James Browne, my grandchild, my parte of the two hundred acres of land , lying by mr Blackstones; Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandson John Browne all and every parte of upland and meddow that I have or shall have, att my Decease; with all appurtenances thereunto belonging lying or being in any place or places , upon the Condition that John Browne shall make his two brothers Joseph and Nathaneil: equall with him in the land, of Narragansetts; upon the performace of this Condition all the land and meddow; that I have or shall have; with the appurtenances I give to the said John Browne, except my part of land at Quidnesse; which I give to Dorethy Browne my Grand Daughter; Item I give to Lydia Browne my Daughter in Law a lilke Petticoate; Item I give to my Daughter in law Dorethy Browne A silke Petticoat; Item I give to Lydia Browne an Anna Browne my Grand Children all the Rest of my wearing Clothes Item I Will that all the Rest of my estate; shalbe Devided into five equall parts and Given unto my five Grandchildren, the Children of John Browne Deceased; but if any of these my Grandchildren should Dye before they be one and twenty years of age; or before they be marryed, then their parts shalbe Geven to them that shall survive them;
Item it is my will that my son James Browne shall Give John Browne ten pound, upon the Condition the said James Browne having the house hee now Dwelleth in; Item I make my son James Browne the sole executor of this ,my last Will and Testament; Item I make and ordain Jon Butterworth and Thomas Eastabrooke of Rehoboth, overseers of this my last Will and Testament; In Witness wherof I Doe hereunto put my hand and seale this 17th Day of Decembet; one Thousand six hundred sixty eight

Dorothy departed this life on Saturday, 27 January 1674 in Swansea Township, Bristol County, Massachusetts.2,3 She was buried at Swansea Township, Bristol County, Massachusetts. The inventory of Dorothy's estate was taken in March 1673/74. Her Estate was valued at 253 pounds 14 shillings 2 pence. Her will was probated on 29 March 1674.
