Hannah Byington]. John departed this life on Thursday, 8 February 1713/14 in New Haven at age 61 years, 1 month and 15 days. He was buried at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, in the Center Church Cemetery on the Green. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here Lyeth the Body of Cap. John Bassett who died Feb 8 1714 aged 61 years. In 1821 the stone was removed to Grove Street Cemetery, it is unlikely that the body was removed.3
