Richard was born in the Parish of Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England. He was christened there on 25 August 1622 in St. Michael & All Angels Church.2,3 Richard married Elizabeth Alsop after 5 February 1643 in Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut. Richard & Elizabeth had children: Sylvanius [ca. 1644], Nathaniel [ca.1647], Sarah [1649], Temperance [1651], Mary [1654], Theophilus [1658], Zakaryah [1661], & Barnabas [1666].4 Richard departed this life on Thursday, 23 July 1665 in Milford. The inventory of Richard's estate was taken on Monday, 28 September 1665 by Robert Treat & William Fowler. The net value of his goods and chattells was £420-15-00. On 16 October 1666, the Magistrates of the Court ordered the distribution to his wife & children.5 His will was probated on 16 October 1666. The names and ages of the Children: Nathaniel, age 19 years, Sarah 17, Temperance 15, Mary 12, Theophilus 8, Zakaryah 5, Barnabus ¾ years old. Distribution was ordered the 6th of October, 1666.6

, In 1888, in celebration of its 250th Anniversary, the towns people of Milford had a bridge & tower of stone errected over the river upon whose banks the first habitations were placed and near the spot where the first mill was erected. Along the sides of the bridge individual memorial stones where placed honoring the original settlers and prominent persons in the history of Milford. The tower, bridge and memorials were dedicated on 28 August 1889. The memorial stones were all by private donation.

He was the son of Sylvester and Sarah (Bryan) Baldwin (see coping north side under 17), baptized in Parish Ashton, Clinton, Buckinghamshire, Eng., August 25, 1622. He was prominent in many of the land purchases and divisions in Milford, was member of the General Court for the Town from May, 1662, to May, 1664, and was one of the Committee " for ye consumating of matters betwixt Connecticutt and us " when the two Colonies were joined in 1664. He married in 1643, Elizabeth, the sister of Joseph Alsop, of New Haven, and she after Richard's death married as second wife William Fowler, 2nd (1). His son Sylvanus married Mildred, the daughter of Rev. Peter Prudden.
