William was born circa 1699 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island. William married Hannah Hicks in Swansea Township, Bristol County, Massachusetts. William & Hannah had at least two sons, Daniel & William. Daniel was mentioned in his grandfather's,Daniel Hicks' land deed which was like his will dated 27 October 1740 in which it was noted Daniel was not yet of age. He signed a petition to the Rhode Island Legislature in June 1728. In May of 1732, William, with his brothers Cornelius & Daniel, were admitted freemen in Glocester. He purchased property in New Hartford, Connecticut as early as 1748. His brothers, Daniel & Thomas, also moved there. His father left him his wearing apparel & a gun in his will of 7 March 1752. In 1778, he granted land in New Hartford to his son, William.1,2,3
