John Jacob Walters

     John Jacob was born on Monday, 3 September 1804 in Ohio. He was the son of Anthony Walter & Sarah Hawk. He went by his middle name Jacob. Jacob married Lillian Ann Ridgely, daughter of Westall Ridgely and Elizabeth Heim, on 19 December 1825 in Marion County, Ohio. This was Crawford County but for the years 1824 & 1825 was considered part of Marion County.1 Jacob & Lillian had children: Ruth [9/25/1826-9/06/1911][m. 11/21/1844 William Drake] Elizabeth [7/04/1828-3/05/1879], Sarah [9/16 1831-8/16/1898][m. 2/11/1853 John Sanborn Chandler], John [1834-8/26/1837][m. 9/22/1863 Mary Magers], George [1836], Mary [6/01/1838-11/09/1874][m. John Smalley & 2nd. 4/09/1867 Edward Cooper], Westall "Wesley" Ridgely [1840][m. 3/01/1866 Martha Jane Morrison], Matilda [1842][m. George W. Bacon], Sebastion [1844], Lillian Ann [1845][m. 3/01/1866 David J. Shay], Jacob [7/24/1846-8/24/1921][m. 3/19/1868 Martha McClintock], and Almirah Ann [3/20/1849-6/23/1878][m. 4/15/1869 John Cummingham Eicher]. 5 August 1850, Jacob and his wife, Lillian, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Jackson Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Ann [15 Ohio], Jacob [13 Ohio], Elmira [11 Ohio], along with Henry Fryer [12 Ohio].3 22 June 1870, Jacob and his wife, Lillian, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Jackson Township. Enumerated in this household were Jacob Wallter [66 Pennsylvania', his wife: Lillie A. [64 Maryland], servant: Jane Brown [50 Pennsylvania], George W. Smalley [12 Ohio], Marietta Walter [10 Ohio], son: Jacob Walter [23 Ohio], his wife: Martha [21 Pennsylvania], their grandchild: Francis E. [1 Ohio].4 22 June 1880, Jacob and his wife, Lillian, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Jackson Township. Enumerated in this household were Jacob Walter [75 Pennsylvania], his wife: Lilli Ann [73 Maryland], John C. Eicher [32 Pennsylvania], Armeda [11 Ohio], Jessie Eicher [9 California], Franklin Powers [16 Pennsylvania - orphan].5 John's wife, Lillian, died on 28 July 1887 in Liberty Township leaving him a widower. Jacob departed this life on Friday, 11 December 1891 in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, at age 87 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was buried there in Sandusky Township in Luke Cemetery.6
