David was born on Saturday, 23 July 1763 in Chester, Orange County, New York. David married Elizabeth Smith in 1783 in Orange County, New York. By Elder Carr of Goshen. He moved from Goshen to Smith's Cove, at the head of Long Pond. About 1789, he removed to Shawangunk. Sometime after 1805, he moved to Newfield, Tioga County, New York he was a weaver. Late in life he removed with his son to Huron Count7, Ohio. David's wife, Elizabeth, died on 20 March 1837 in Newfield, Tioga County, New York, leaving him a widower. David married 2nd Sally Dill Mosier on 5 July 1839 in New York. David departed this life on Friday, 28 September 1849 in Huron County, Ohio.

David Vail moved from Goshen, Orange Co., to Smith's Cove, at the head of Long Pond, where he lived until about 1789, when he removed to Shawangunk. He removed to Newfield, Tompkins Co., N. Y., after 1805. There his occupation was that of a weaver. Late in life he removed with his son to Huron Count7, Ohio, where he died September 28, 1849. Children:

iii Phebe b. 29 July, 1786; m. 20 Dec., 1806, Benjamin Horton, b. 7 July, 1787, son of Joseph Horton and Juliana Dicker; d. at New Milford, Ill., 6 Dec., 1848. They lived at Rockford, Ill. Children :
