Thomas Thrasher

Thomas was born on Tuesday, 29 October 1726 in Prince George County, Maryland. Thomas, in 1745, when Frederick County was being laid out, was a chain carrier. He had a tract of land of over 200 acres. Maria's home was the in the Peterville district. They belonged to the Episcopal Church. Thomas married Martha Lee, daughter of James Lee and Mary [Maria] (?), on 21 April 1748 in Frederick County, Maryland. He was a Revoluntionary War Patriot having supplied goods to the newly formed militia of the colonies of the United States. Thomas made his will on 23 March 1799.
In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Thrasher of Frederick county and State of Maryland, farmer being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and being desirous to settle my workly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence I do thereby make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named and my debts and funeral charges are paid and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha all my lands, goods and chattles, negroes and book debts for and during her natural life an it is my intent and desire that she may enjoy the same peaceably and quietly without being put to the trouble and expense of administration and having an appraisement on the same during her life and after her decease.
I give and bequeath unto my two sons Eli Thrasher and Elias Thrasher all the tract of land whereon I now live known by the name "Enough and to Spare: to be equally divided between them in the following manner, that is to say, it is my will and desire that the said tract of land with the crop on the ground and also the crop in the house shall be appraised in current money by two men to be by them chosen and when so appraised and the value thereof ascertained that my son Eli Thrasher shall possess the said tract of land and crop with all the advantages thereto belonging provided my son Eli Thrasher pay to my son Elias Thrasher one half the valuation of the same as before ascertained by annual installments of 50 pounds current money each the first payment to be made in one year after he the said Eli Thrasher shall take possession of the said plantation or the tract of land and so on 50 pounds annually until the whole of the one half of the valuation of the said tract of land and crops thereon as aforesaid shall be paid unto my son Elias Thrasher except one quarter of an acre which it is my will shall not be taken into the appraisement aforesaid but reserved or the use of a graveyard. And further it is my will and desire that in case my son Elias Thrasher shall think himself aggrieved by the aforesaid division of said land and crops that they my executor hereinafter named shall sell or cause to be sold the whole of the said tract of land and crops thereon as aforesaid at private or public sale as they may think most beneficial in the money and the profits arising therefrom to be equally divided between my two aforesaid sons Eli Thrasher and Elias Thrasher share and share alike to them in their heirs forever.
I give and bequeath after the death of my wife Martha unto my son Thom Thrasher one negros man named James to him and his heirs forever.
Igive and bequeath after the death of my wife Martha all the residue of my estate to my eight children by name, Mary Linch, Benjamin Thrasher, Ruth Ridgley, Keziah Leath, John Thrasher, Srah Hook, Elias Thrasher and Eli Thrasher to be equally divided between them share and share alike to them and their heirs forever.
Item It is my will and desire that my daughter Mary Linch upon receipt of her legacy shall pay or cause to be paid unto my grand daughter Martha Chunn 15 pounds current money.
Irtem It is my will and desire that my son Benjamin Thrasher upon receipt of his legacy shall pay ujnto his son Thomas Thrasher 15 pounds current money.
And lastly, I do gereby constitute and appoint my two sons Elias Thrasher and Eli Thrasher my true and lawful executors of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and none other rto be my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof I have herunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 23rd day of March anno Domingo 1779.

Thomas departed this life on Wednesday, 6 June 1804 in Frederick County, Maryland, at age 77 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was buried there in Frederick Town in the Thomas Thrasher Farm Cemetery.2 His will was probated on 12 June 1804.
