John Baird

M, b. before 1755
John was born before 1755 probably in Pennsylvania. An indenture was made the 10th day of March 1788 between Thomas & Isabel Collins of Wayne township, Cumberland County & John Beard of the same place for two hundred pounds being all that messuage and farm with the appurtenances bounded on the east by the land of Solomon Palmer south by Samuel Moorhead and west by James Bratton and on the north by the river Juniata containing about two hundred acres. It was witnessed by William Bratton & David Walker.1
John married circa 1789 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. The 1790 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, the family of John is not found in Wayne Township in 1790. Since the land record stated he was of that place, it is assumed he is living with another family - perhaps that of his wife.2 The 1800 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Armagh Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, the family of John Beard [10001:1001]. Also living in this township is William Beard.3 The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, the family of John Baird [00101:00101]. Living around John are Henry Pixler, James Hamilton, William Holt, --, Margaaret Bratton, Margaret Jenkins, Isaac Cochran. A John Baird [Beard] no longer appears in Armagh or Union Townships.4
