Susan was born circa 1569 in Modbury, Devonshire, England, at the Trayne Manor. Susan married John Coster on 24 January 1585 at Totnes, Devonshire, England.1 Susan's husband, John, died before 1597 in Devonshire, England, leaving her a widow. In 1597, Susan is involved in various land transactions as a widow. On 12 September 1604, she is made executrix of her sister Hester's will.2
