Obituary - On Saturday afternoon Lewis Stremmel had occasion to visit the residence of his father, on Poplar street, and was surprised at finding his rooms closed and no appearance of life about the premises. After inquiring of the neighbors whether the old gentleman had been seen, and learning that he was last observed passing through the yard at an early hour in the morning, the son forced an entrance and going into his father’s sleeping apartment found hem lying upon the bed apparently asleep, with his arms folded over his face. An endeavor to arouse him showed that he was dead. Medical attention was called, but it was evident that death had ensued some time previous, caused doubtless by paralysis of the brain. Mr. Stemmel lived alone, but received every needed attention from his children. A Coroner’s inquest was held but no post mortem made, the physician deeming it unnecessary.
George Ludwig Stremmel was born in the village of Ballenberg, province of Whittenstein, Kingdom of Prussia, January 9, 1815, and was consequently in his sixty-ninth year at the time of his death. September 15, 1848, he was married to Frederika Feiring, and the same year emigrated to America, landing in Baltimore. He came to Bucyrus in the spring of 1854, and has since remained a resident of this city. He was the father of three children, Louis, William and Amelia, the former two of whom survive.5

He was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery on Monday, 16 April 1883. His funeral took place at his home on South Spring Street under the auspices of the German Geselschaft. After this, a sermon was preached at the German Reformed Church.6 Letters of Administration of his estate were granted on 17 April 1883 to his son Lewis..
