Daniel Shaffstall

     Daniel was born in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He was christened there on 11 April 1804 in Hoffman's Reformed Church. The sponsors of his christening were Daniel Schafstall & Eva.² Daniel married Mary Minni circa 1823 in Pennsylvania. Daniel & Mary had children: John [4/04/1826-9/25/1903][m. 2/14/1850 Catherine H. Hanline], Michael [1829-5/21/1864], Sarah [1832], Mary [8/22/1835-1/27/1914][m. 1854 James M. McFadden, 2nd. 1869 Jacob Grames & 3rd. Jesse P. Wade], Catherine [8/22/1835- 12/13/1874][m. Samuel M. McCrory], Susan L. [3/07/1838-2/26/1917][m. 1856 William Mercer], Hannah [9/28/1839-5/12/1912][m. 8/21/1858 Noah E Stump & 2nd. 1/01/1873 John Fiester], Henry [1840-6/15/1863], Daniel [1842-8/15/1861], & Rebecca [9/10/1846-217/1886][m. 11/02/1867 Theodore Nelson Alexander]. Enumerated in this household were Daniel Shofestoll [46 Pennsylvania], his wife: Mary [42 Pennsylvania], children: Michael [21 Pennsylvania], Sarah [18 Pennsylvania], Mary [16 Pennsylvania], children: Catherine [16 Pennsylvania], Susan [12 Pennsylvania], Hannah [11 Ohio], Henry [9 Ohio], Daniel [8 Ohio], & Rebecca [4 Ohio]. Daniel is a farmer.⁴ 21 August 1860, Daniel and his wife, Mary, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Perry Township, Wood County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Daniel Shaffstall [56 Pennsylvania], his wife: Mary [52 Pennsylvania], children: Henry [20 Ohio], Daniel [18 Ohio], & Rebecca [14 Ohio]. Daniel is a miller.⁵ 20 August 1870, Daniel and his wife, Mary, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Freedom Township, Wood County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Daniel Shaffstall [66 Pennsylvania], his wife: Mary [62 Pennsylvanis], & Ellen McFaden [10 Ohio].⁶ Daniel departed this life in April 1876 in Wood County, Ohio, at age 71 years and 11 months. He was buried at Pemberville, Wood County, Ohio, in Fish Cemetery.
