Thomas Root

     Thomas was born in 1648 in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was the son of John Root & Mary Kilbourne. He married first in Westfield, Mary Gridley in 1670. She died in 1673 leaving him a widower. He had two children by this marriage: Thomas [9/02/1671-2/25/1689] and Mary [10/21/1673-12/12/1700]. Thomas married 2nd Mary Spencer, daughter of Sergeant Thomas Spencer and Sarah Bearding, on 7 October 1675 in Westfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Thomas & Mary had children: John [12/25/1676-10/01/1744] [m. Mary Leonard], Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah [7/27/1683-4/04/1739] [m. Israel Dewey], Timothy [12/03/1685-11/01/1743] [m. 1710 Sarah Pease] & Joseph. Thomas's wife, Mary, died on 4 November 1690 in Westfield leaving him a widower.¹ On 25 January 1692, he married third in Westfield, Sarah Dumbleton. Sarah died 3 January 1694, leaving him a widower. Thomas departed this life on Friday, 16 August 1709 in Westfield at age 61 years. He was buried at Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut, in North Cemetery.²
