Mary Julia was born in August 1873 in Ohio. She was the daughter of Adeline Pifer. Mary Julia married Stephen Douglas Beery, son of Jonathan Beery and Magdalena Corfman, in 1892 in Ohio. Stephen & Mary J. had children: Nellie Gertrude [11/21/1894-12/15/1968][m. ca. 1914 Reginald Leon Routson], Rhoda Laverna [1/29/1897-2/09/1970][m. 9/19/1915 Troy Wilber Alspach], Grace L. Enumerated in this household were Stephen Beery [46 Ohio], his wife: Mary [37 Ohio], children: Nellie [15 Ohio], Rhoda [13 Ohio], Freddie [8 Ohio], Gale [son][6 Ohio], Dale [6 Ohio], Kenneth [7/12 Ohio], They had been married 18 years with 7 children, 6 living. Stephen does odd jobs.2 8 July 1920, Mary and her husband, Stephen, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio, at East Lythg Street. Enumerated in this household were Steven Beery [58 Ohio], his wife: Mary J. [47 Ohio], children: Fred [18 Ohio], Gale C. [16 Ohio], Dale C. [16 Ohio], Kenneth F. [12 Ohio] & Charles A. [9 Ohio]. He is a laborer.3 9 April 1930, Mary and her husband, Stephen, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Fostoria at 242 Lytle Street. Enumerated in this household were Stephen Beery [69 Ohio], Mary [53 Ohio], Fred [24 Ohio], Kenneth [22 Ohio] & Charles [19 Ohio]. they are renting the home for $25. Stephen is working as a janitor for Western Union; Fred is a grinder for Auto Lite; Kenneth is a clerk for the railroad office; Charles is a baker.4 10 April 1940, Mary and her husband, Stephen, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Fostoria at 235 W. Lytle Street. Enumerated in this household were Stephen Beery [70 Ohio], Mary J. [66 Ohio], Fred [36 Ohio], Dale [34 Ohio] & Kenneth [33 Ohio]. They rented their home for $18 a month. Fred was working as a grinder in an Auto Parts manufactoring company making $780 a year & Kenneth did odd jobs at the Steam Railroad depot making $600.5 Mary's husband, Stephen, died on 3 July 1940 in Fostoria leaving her a widow.6 Mary departed this life in March 1941 in Fostoria at age 67 years and 7 months. She was buried there in the Fountain Cemetery.
