Elizabeth was born in Winstanley in the parish of Wigan, Lancastershire, England. She was christened there on 2 May 1611 in All Saints Church.1 Elizabeth married Richard Barton on 8 February 1629 in Wigan at All Saints Church. Richard and Elizabeth had children: John, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Sarah & Joshua. Elizabeth's husband, Richard, died before 8 November 1655 in Billinge, Lancashire, England, leaving her a widow. Elizabeth made her will on 28 December 1659.
In the name of God Amen I Elizabeth Barton of Billinge in the Parish of Wigan and County of Lancaster Widow being at this point sick and weak in body yet of sound and perfect memory praise be given to my God for the same am mindful to make ordain constitute and appoint this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form hereafter declared and first and principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my only Creator and Redeemer in whom is all my hope of Salavation and my body I commit unto the Earth from whence it came to be buried according to the discretion of my Friends and Executors hereafter named.
And as for and concerning all such goods and chattels whatsoever both real and personal which it hath pleased God in his mercy to bestow on me here in this life and which I shall be true owner of at my decease it is my mind and will to dispose of give and bequeath as hereafter followeth.
And first of all it is my mind and will that the cupboard and dish board thereto adjoining the shelves and forms in the house and also shelves in the parlour shall at all times hereafter be and remain in the said house and parlour to and for the use of John Barton my eldest son as his proper and peculiar goods and for the rest and residue of my said goods and debts chattels and utensils I give and bequeath as followeth.
Whereas I obtained a lease of certain crofts to the quantity of half an acre together with certain building from Humphrey Winstanley and Elizabeth his wife for term of years for which I paid ten pounds as by the same lease appeareth I doe therefore hereby devise grant assign over and appoint the said croft and building to the said recited lease concerning the same unto Joshua Barton my younger son his Executors Administrators and Assigns for and during all my Estate and term contained and mentioned in the said lease satisfying of the sum of five pounds yet due unto him the said Joshua by his Father’s Will and the residue of the value of the said estate according as I account it, and paid for it being other five pounds be it more or less. I will that he has as of my goods in the Estate as aforesaid.
Then it is my mind and will that my debts and funeral expenses bee forth and out of the rest of my said goods and chattels truly discharged and paid and then I give and bequeath unto the said John Barton my eldest son three pounds which he doe oweth me I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Barton the sum of four pounds and ten shillings which Evan Marsh oweth me.
Item. To Hannah another daughter five pounds.
Item. It is my mind and will that my sister Margaret shall have a waistcoat out of the best piece of White.
And as concerning all the remaining part of my goods chattels debts and utensils not before disposed of I give and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Mary, Hannah and Sarah Barton my four daughters equally to be divided amongst them and the survivors and survivor of them, provided always that if the said John Barton doe pay unto the said Elizabeth his sister the sum of six pounds which he truly oweth.
Then it is my mind and will that the said sum of four pounds and ten shillings owing by the said Evan Marsh shall be by my Executors hereafter named divided and distributed amongst my said four daughters equally and not to be the said Elizabeth only.
And I doe hereby moreover also ordayne constitute appoint and make William Barton of Huyton, Thomas Smethurst of Billinge aforesaid and Edmund Winstanley of Ashton in Makerfield in the said County Yeoman my true and lawful Executors to execute and perform this my said last Will and Testament in all things according to my mind and will herein declared according as my trust and confidence is them and for the better strengthening and corroborating hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the eight and twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred and fifty nine.

Elizabeth departed this life in Billinge. The inventory of Elizabeth's estate was taken on Monday, 26 January 1659/60. Her inventory was appraised at £161.04s.0d. Her will was probated on 30 January 1659/60.
