  1. [S290] Nickerson Family Association, The Nickerson Family, Page 126-127 - HUGH NICKERSON (Elisha4, John3, John2, Williaml), born at Harwich, Mass. 8 August 1754; son of Elisha and Desire (Nickerson) Nickerson; died 18 November 1818 at Argyle, Nova Scotia.
    He was married in Argyle on 13 February 1777 by Rev. Jonathan Scott to SARAH ALLEN whose antecedents came from Scotland.
    "July 7, 1778 Hugh Nichelson or Nickerson of Argyle petitions the council for liberty to return to N. S. He states that he has lately arrived in Boston from Argyle in the schooner "Ranger", burdened with 10 tons, with Capt. Jonathan Tukesbury and 9 of his crew. Capt. Tukesbury's vessel, the privateer schooner "Fox", was driven ashore near Argyle by a British cruiser in much the same manner as was the "Cabot". The "Fox", owned by Samuel Page of Salem, of 18 tons burden, mounting one carriage and 8 swivel guns, manned by a crew of 20 men, commanded by Capt. Jonathan Tukesbury and Lt. Amos Mansfield was commissioned by the Mass. Council Feb. 19 1778". (U-5) This petition is unsigned and there is no note of its disposal, although it is located between petitions granted in Mass. Archives vol. 169.
