Sir William de Munchensy

M, b. 1230, d. before 14 May 1302
     He was a knight. William de was born in 1230 in Edwardstone, County Suffolk, England. He was the son of William de Munchensy & Joan, daughter & heiress of Georffrey de Creke.1 William married Beatrice de Beauchamp, daughter of William de Beauchamp and Ida Longespee, before June 1278 in England. Along with the titles and lands that he inherited from his father, he also received manors from other relatives, giving him a very large estate. He fought in various battles in support of the king, but in 1285, he was tried and condemned for having sent 4 men of his household to murder a man by the name of Hugh Bukky and for harboring one of the murderers. He was granted a pardon on condition that he go to the Holy Lands and spend the remainder of his life there. However, he was still imprisioned in the tower of London in 1290, but he was in the Holy Lands by 1292. In 1297, he received permission to return to England where he spent the remainder of his life. William departed this life before 14 May 1302 in England.
