Richard Gardiner

Richard was born circa 1504 in Bramford, County Suffolk, England.1 Richard married Margery (?) circa 1533 in Elmsett, Suffolk, England.2 Richard made his will on 27 January 1560.
I Richard Gardyner, carpenter, of Bramford . . . unto Margerye my wife my Tenement called Crabbes withal the lands lyenge . . . in Brampforde and in Sprowton During her natural life . . .yf she beynge an aged woman do keep her self a wedowe all the same terme of her lief natural she shall pesablye and quyetlye enjoy my sayd Tenement . . . excepte my lytle parlor with the chimney in yt whiche parlor I will my syster Felgate shall have during her lief natural with free passage in and oute . . . I will that after the decease of my sayd wife that my sayd howse and lande shallbe solde to the beste proofe And the value therof to be equally devyded amonge five of my sonnes that ys to saye Philippe Gibert John Edmunde and William Gardener . . . I do ordeyne . . . the two eldest myn Executors that is to saye Philippe and Gylberte and my nevye Edmund Gardener of Ippsiswiche to be supervisor . . . unto my sonne Thomas who hathe hadde his porcyon already one sylve spone for a better rememberaunce . . . unto my daughter Ane Gardyner thre pownds syxe shillings and eighte pence . . . at . . . her maryage or at the age of xviii yeres . . . I will that yf anye of my sayd sonnes shalbe able to bye my sayd howse & Londe that he shall have yt fortye shillings under the pryce that any other manne will geve for yt – And yf none of my sonnes be able to bye yt then that my nevye Edmunde Gardyner of Ippiswiche shall have the like preferment yf he be able to byue yt . . . I will that my wife shall delyver unto my sayd Executors Immediately after my deathe forty pownds . . . to be equally devyded among the childerne of John Cokke of Brampforde . . . according to the true meanynge of there fathers will . . . five marks for my daughter Ane . . . unto everye of my sayd five sonnes a bedde a boulster and all other necessaries thereunto belongynge at the discretion of my wife chargynge everye of my sayd sonnes to be content with mothers appointment or ells to have none at all . . .to everye of my sayd sonnes one brasse pote and a sylver spone . . . I geve all my tooles to two of my sayd sonnes that is to say to Gilbert and Edmonde And Gilbert to chose first toole & Edmonde the nexte and so until they have taken all my sayd tooles between them . . .I will that they all my childerne shall see well and bee good to there mother but specially my two sonnes Gilbert and Edmonde because they have all my tooles during her natural life . . . unto John Cannon one sylver spone . . . unto Thomas Cocke one sylver spone.3
Richard departed this life in Bramford. He was buried there in the churchyard of St. Andrew's on Monday, 15 February 1560.2 His will was probated on 13 October 1560.
