Lela Ruth Beery

     Lela Ruth was born on Wednesday, 22 May 1907 in Upper Sandusky, Crane Township, Wyandot County, Ohio. She was the daughter of LeRoy Selby Beery and Bertha Smith. Lela Ruth married Harry A. McCurdy, son of Sidney McCurdy and Cora Ellen Peterman, on 5 April 1931 in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, at the Beery home on U.S. 30. On Easter Sunday, by Rev. Trenton O. Copus.¹ 25 May 1940, Lela and her husband, Harry, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Liberty Township. Enumerated in this household were Harry A. [37, Ohio], his wife Lela R. [33, Ohio], & Marilyn Joyce [8, Ohio]. They were renting a farm for 5 dollars a month. [Note - This farm was the "Peterman Farm" which originally belonged to Harry's grandparents. - KLM]² 18 April 1950, Lela and her husband, Harry, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Harry A. McCurdy [47 Ohio], Lela R. [42 Ohio], M. Joyce [17 Oho] & Larry A. [5 Ohio]. He was a night watchman for a manufacturer of electic bulbs and worked 40 hours the previous week. Joyce worked as a sales clerk at a department store and worked 10 hours the previous week.³ Lela's husband, Harry, died on 19 November 1982 in Liberty Township at his home, 4163 State Route 96 leaving her a widow. Lela died on Friday, 14 April 1989 in Bucyrus at Bucyrus Community Hospital at age 81 years, 10 months and 23 days of a severe stroke which occurred in her home several days earlier.

Obituary - Lela Ruth Beery McCurdy 81, of 4163 Ohio 96, Bucyrus died at 2:50 am today, Friday Apri 14, 1989, in Bucyrus Community Hospital where she was taken April 1 after suffering a stroke. Mrs. McCurdy was born May 22, 19078, in Upper Sandusky to Roy S. Bertha Smith Beery. She was married April 5, 1931, to Harry A. McCurdy, who preceded her in dearh Nov. 1, 1982. Surviving are two children Marilyn Joyce McCurdy Linn Saylor, Pittsburh, Pa. and Larry Allen McCurdy, East Lansing , Mich., three sisters, Ruby Bogan, Bucyrus, Thelma Blackledge, Akron, and Ilean Stoofer, Bucryus, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a brother Chester Beery. A homemaker and a lifeling area resident, she was a member of the Zion Chapel United Methodist Chrurch. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 1:00 pm in the Zion Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Patricia E. Reiter officiating. Burial will be in Liberty ChapelCwmwtery. Friends may call at Wise Funeral Home Sunday from 2-4cand 7-9 pm. She was buried there in Crall Cemetery (Liberty Chapel) on Monday, 17 April 1989. She was buried in Lot 87A alongside her husband.⁴
