Lewis Stremmel
     Lewis was born on Thursday, 24 October 1844 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland. He was the son of George Ludwig Stremmel and Frederika Feiring. Lewis married Lydia Malinda Bonebrake on 6 October 1871 in Crawford County, Ohio. This marriage ended in divorce before 1880.1 Lewis married 2nd Anna Elizabeth Meads on 25 March 1880 in Crawford County, Ohio. Eliza was first married to Johiel Bair.2,3 4 June 1880, Lewis and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus village, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Lewis Stremmel [35 Maryland], his wife: Eliza [31 Pennsylvania], step son: Samuel Blair [14 Ohio], step daughter: Cora Bair [12 Ohio] & step son: Roy Bair [10 Ohio]. Lewis is a saloon keeper.4 4 June 1900, Lewis and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Lewis Stremmel [55 Maryland - October 1844] & his wife: Anna [50 New York - __ 1850].5 16 April 1910, Lewis and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus on Walnut Street. Enumerated in this household were Louis Stremmel [65 Maryland] & his wife: Anna E. [61 New York]. They had been married 30 years with no children.6 9 January 1920, Lewis and his wife, Anna, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus on Walnut Street. Enumerated in this household were Louis Stremmel [75 Maryland] & his wife: Anna C. [70 New York]. Louis is a laborer in a machine shop.7 Lewis departed this life on Thursday, 8 February 1923 in Bucyrus at his home, 910 South Walnut Street at age 78 years, 3 months and 15 days.

Obituary - Lewis Stremmel, one of the city’s oldest and best known citizens, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Graham, 910 South Walnut street at 5 o’clock Tuesday morning following an illness of several days. The end came peacefully and was caused directly by paralysis.
Mr. Stremmel had been a resident of Bucyrus since 1854 vwhen he came here with his parents, George and Frederika [Feiring] Stremmel, from Baltimore, Md., where he was born on October 29, 1844. At the time of his death he was aged 78 years, three months and eight days.
Mr. Stremmel was the oldest Mason in point of membership in this city, and probably in age also. He had been identified with the local lodge of Masons of 54 years and was one oof the organiers and first secretary of the present lodge. He attended lodge regularly for many years until his age and health would not permit him to do so.
Mr. Stremmel was also a charter member of Lasalle lodge No. 51, I. O. O. F. and was without doubt the oldest Odd Fellow in the city, his membership extending over a period of 55 years.
He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Bair on March 25, 1880. No children were born to this union, but the deceased had been a father to his step-children and grandchildren. These were Edward Bair and Mrs. Cora Hoselton of this city. There are three step great grand children, two children of Clarence Bair and one son of Mrs. W. J. Graham who is a daughter of Mrs. Hoselton. Mr. and Mrs. Stremmel had made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Graham. Mrs. Stremmel survives. Mr. Stremmel had been employed with the T. & O. railway company for many years. At one time he was a guard at the Ohio Reformatory at Mansfield.

He was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery.8
