Elizabeth Shoemaker Rutan1

     Elizabeth Shoemaker was born in 1823 in Horseheads, Tioga County, New York. She was the daughter of James & Anna [Shoemaker] Rutan of Horseheads. Elizabeth Shoemaker married John Truesdell Carpenter, son of Townsend Carpenter and Elizabeth Truesdell, on 15 April 1849 in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. John & Elizabeth had children: Townsend [1850] & Theodore [1851]. 20 July 1860, Elizabeth and her husband John were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. Enumerated in this household were John T. Carpenter [52 New York], his wife: Elizabeth [37 New York], children: Townsend [10 New York], Theodore [8 New York], and Ellen C. Rowley [19 Ireland]. John is a butcher.2 Elizabeth departed this life on Thursday, 5 June 1862 in Horseheads, Chemung County, New York. She was buried at Horseheads, Chemung County, New York, in the Horseheads Cemetery.
