Lela Ruth Beery

     Lela was born on Wednesday, 22 May 1907 at Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio. She was the daughter of LeRoy and Bertha [Smith] Beery. Lela married an unknown person , son of Sidney McCurdy and Cora Ellen Peterman, Easter Sunday, 5 April 1931 by Rev. Trenton O. Copus at the Beery home on Mansfield Road U.S, 30, Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio.¹ As of 5 April 1931,her married name was McCurdy.¹ Harry was raised on the family homestead of James & Elizabeth McCurdy. In 1954, they purchased a small farm not far from this homestead. Later in life, Harry worked as a night watchman for the General Electric Company. 25 May 1940, Lela was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio. Enumerated in this household were Harry A. [37, Ohio], his wife Lela R. [33, Ohio], & Marilyn Joyce [8, Ohio]. They were renting a farm for 5 dollars a month. [Note - This farm was the "Peterman Farm" which originally belonged to Harry's grandparents. - KLM]² Lela died on Friday, 14 April 1989 at the Bucyrus Community Hospital, Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio, at age 81 years, 10 months and 23 days as a result of a stroke that occurred at her home. She was buried on 17 April 1989 at the Crall Cemetery [Liberty Chapel], Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio, in grave number 87A.
