Archibald McCurdy

Archibald was born circa 1730 in Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Archibald married Hannah Watson on 14 December 1762 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, at First Reformed Congregation.1 Archibald and Hannah had children: Mary [circa 1763] [m. Robert Thompson,] Adam [circa 1765], John [circa 1769], James [circa 1774], Archibald [circa 1776]. Archibald made his will on 20 November 1794 at Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
In the name of God Amen. I Archibald McCurdy of the Township of Salisbury in the County of Lancaster, state of Pennsylvania being weak in body but strong of mind and memory Blessed be God Do this twentieth Day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred ninety four make & publish this my last will and Testament in men the following [that is to say] after the payment of my just Debts and personal expenses I give unto my well beloved wife Hannah McCurdy the third of my Estate Real & personal and while she remains my widow her choice of any room in the house in which to dwell and fire wood sufficient cut and halled to the door and a cow kept and a horse to ride when she shall choose or if she shall not find it convenient for her to live in the house my son Adam shall erect a house at some convenient place on my land as she shall direct. I also give to my wife my best bed with its furniture. I give nd bequeath to my Daughter Mary Thompson two hundred pounds to be paid by my son Adam fifty pounds thereof Eighteen months after my decease and fifty pounds yearly thereafter until the whole is paid. I give and devise to my son Adam McCurdy his heirs the Westerly Moiety or half part of my plantation adjoining James Anderson, and I give and devise to my son James McCurdy and his heirs the Easterly moiety of half part adjoining William Richardson to be divided by a line as near parallel with the lines of the said James Anderson and William Richardson as may be so as to include the Dwelling House barn and Spring house in the Westerly moiety and the spring near the Lunekiln in the Easterly moiety my son Adam to use and occupy the whole place until my said son James arrives at the age of twenty one years and to my son Archibald McCurdy I give and bequeath the sum of five hundred pounds when he shall arrive at the age of twenty one years two hundred and fifty pounds to my said son Adam & two hundred fifty pounds by my said son James and a good horse saddle and Bridle if any of my sons should not live to attain the age of twenty one years it is my will that my Daughter Mary Thompson shall have one hundred pounds out of such childs share Legacy or devise and the remainer to surviving sons or son and father it is my will that if my sons James and Archibald shall live with my son Adam that he accommodate and cloth them during such residence. And I do make and ordain my wife as executrix and William Brisden and my son Adam McCurdy Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said Archibald McCurdy have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written. My son Adam shall have the liberty at all times to enter the land of James to take the water from the spring he doing as little injury as possible.2
Archibald departed this life in Salisbury Township. He was buried at Salisbury Township in Pegun Churchyard. His will was probated on 2 February 1795.2
