     John was born in 1656 in Oyster Bay Town, Queens County, Long Island, New York. John married Hannah Freeman on 14 April 1681 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. John and Hannah had children: Hannah [1/08/1681] [m. 5/12/1720 Judah Hopkins], Samuel [7/16/1684], Mercy [4/23/1688] [m. 626/1687 Nathaniel Hopkins], John [5/10/1691-2/01/1756] [m. 10/22/1712 Susannah Freeman], Rebecca [9/18/1692] [m. 8/12/1714 Ebenezer Paine], Joseph [10/26/1694-1/15/1771] [m. 4/17/1712 Joseph Hopkins], Joseph [12/22/1696] [m. 2/20/1718 Abigail Merrick] & Elizabeth [7/16/17062/29/1789] m. 10/18/1726 Ebenezer Nickereson. John made his will on 3 February 1723/24 at Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

He made bequests to his wife, Hannah, son, Samuel and his children to whom he left the sum of 40 pounds each, sons John and Joseph, and daughters, Hannah Hopkins, Mercy Hopkins, Rebecca Paine, Mary Hopkins and Elizabeth Mayo.2

John departed this life on Friday, 1 February 1726 in Harwich at age 70 years.2 His will was probated on 25 February 1725/26.2
