Mary Marsh

     Mary was born on Wednesday, 17 February 1683 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Thomas Marsh and Sarah Lincoln. Mary married Philip Torrey, son of William Torrey II and Deborah Greene, on 13 January 1708/9 in Hingham. Phillip and Mary had children: Jane [11/01/1710-5/22/1761][m. 10/25/1733 William Pratt], Phillip [4/01/1713-10/13/1783][m. 11/30/1740 Margaret Porter & 2nd 12/11/1762 Betty Pratt], Twins: Thomas [4/11/1716-6/22/1806][m. 10/11/1747 Ruth Torrey daughter of John Torrey and Deborah Green] & William [4/11/1716-7/4/1717], Mary [8/22/1719-9/15/1719], Josiah [11/06/1720-8/18/1783][m. 11/01/1750 Mary Pratt & 2nd 11/05/1774 Mary Goddard], Mary [8/30/1724-5/03/1778][m. 8/30/1744 Benjamin Allen] & Willliam [5/14/1728-12/07/1770][m. 12/06/1753 Mehitable Crane].² Mary's husband, Philip, died on 13 March 1754 in Weymouth leaving her a widow. Mary departed this life on Monday, 8 October 1781 in Weymouth at age 98 years, 7 months and 21 days. She was buried there in North Weymouth Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: In Memory of Mrs. Mary Torrey Wife of Mr. Phillip Torrey She Died October ye 8 1781 in the 98 year of her Age.
